Civic Reporter Network

If you are interested in local government and enjoy getting involved with journalism and media, then the Civic Reporter Network may be for you!

Public Media Network launched the Civic Reporter Network in 2022 to train and equip community members to attend and cover local government meetings. By providing brief written and video reports on local meetings, we hope to make it easier for people to be involved with their local government.

Public Media Network is a strong supporter of government accessibility and people-powered media. PMN currently provides gavel to gavel meeting coverage for the City of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Kalamazoo Township, Oshtemo Township, City of Galesburg, Comstock Township and the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County.

However, not everyone has the time in their schedule to watch a full government meeting. That’s why we are excited to train and equip people like you to provide reports on the meetings that will complement our complete coverage, and keep the community informed.

Training cohorts are generally offered four times a year: winter, spring, summer and fall. Each cohort includes four training sessions held in the Public Media Network (3rd floor Epic Center). Classes are held from 6:30-8 p.m. View upcoming cohorts here.
