Kalamazoo Public Schools Accepting Applications for Board Vacancy

The Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education is accepting applications to fill a board vacancy. Secretary Megan Maddock sent a letter to the Board of Education announcing that she was stepping down effective after their July 20 meeting.

Michigan Election Law (excerpt) Act 116 of 1954, Section 168.302 School Board Member Eligibility: An individual is eligible for election as a school board member if the individual is a citizen of the United States and is a qualified and registered elector of the school district the individual seeks to represent.

The application can be found at the KPS website, www.kalamazoopublicschools.com, or may be picked up at the Administration Building, 1220 Howard St., between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

After applications are received, the trustees will review them at a special meeting to be held on Wednesday, August 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Administration Building, 1220 Howard Street. Interviews will be held with four to six applicants on Thursday, August 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Administration Building, 1220 Howard Street. The candidate will be chosen at the end of the meeting on August 3.

The new trustee will begin their term on August 10 at the regularly scheduled board meeting. This vacancy is for a term effective upon appointment through Dec. 31, 2026.
