Pecha Kucha – 20 slides x 20 seconds per slide
What happens when a young African American girl fears for her father’s life when he is pulled over for a failed brake light? And what goes through your mind when a young boy is so depressed that he feels suicide is his only out? These issues and more are among the more than a dozen media projects entered in Public Media Network’s Inaugural Say Something! Media and Idea Festival.
The finalists of the red-carpet event be announced at the festival from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, April 13th, at the Epic Center Jolliffe Theatre in downtown Kalamazoo. The event is free and open to the public who will watch the final entries before they are awarded. In addition, a local Pecha Kucha troupe will use their format of 20 seconds/20 images to share stories that will inspire and entertain the audience. Eclipse nominated director MJ Harrell will feature the local premiere of his captivating music video, “Little Miss Perfect.” The project was created with the help of Kalamazoo Public Schools Principal Atiba McKissick who used the video for a school-wide discussion on depression in teen health.
