National Pet Day is April 11, 2016 and PMN will be celebrating with you. We love animals! Although, maybe you shouldn’t bring them in the studio. We show our love for animals at the office with Doggie in the Window! Doggie in the Window is a 30-minute program that is showcased on PMN’s Government Channel. The program has been televised for many, many years and has been a great platform for the community to see an array of animals in need of a home. If you’ve lost a pet or are looking to adopt a pet, the show is a great place to look.

There are a lot of people that help coordinate this program. Julie Barber, the Director of Community Connections at the Kalamazoo Humane Society, works with staff and volunteers at Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement (KCASE) to take photos of incoming animals that are posted online and also distributed to PMN. PMN staff then takes the photos to create a slideshow program almost every week. It is a collaborative effort and we must thank the Humane Society and KCASE for continuing this program with us!

National Pet Day is all about celebrating and appreciating the amazing pets in our lives. Colleen Paige, a pet lifestyle expert and animal welfare advocate, founded National Pet Day to raise awareness about the importance of pet adoption. To celebrate National Pet Day, take your dog on a long walk or give your cat a little extra catnip to show your love and appreciation. Not a pet owner? Consider making a donation or volunteering at your local pet shelter. Happy National Pet Day on April 11!

Doggie in the Window is shown every day on PMN’s Government Channel at 3:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m. The Government Channel is on Charter Channel 188, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 (follow the drop-down menu system), WMU’s interdormitory cable system EduCable Channel 56.5, and streaming online at www.PublicMediaNet.org.
