P – Public
for broadcasting programs produced or submitted by member of the public. PMN’s public channels are 96, 97 and sometimes 95.
E – Education
for broadcasting educational programming, especially programming produced or submitted by area educational institutions. PMN’s educational channel is 99.
G – Government
for broadcasting programming produced by or about area governments, especially public meetings of the various governmental boards and commissions. PMN’s government channel is 98.
Public Media Network belongs to a whole collection of community media organizations throughout the United States. These organizations open up TV and radio to the public. Taken together, they are referred to as PEG access.
PEG channels are actually three distinct types of specialty-programming cable channels allowed as part of the Cable Communications Act of 1984.
WKDS 89.9 FM is a radio station owned by the Kalamazoo Public Schools but operated by PMN. It exists as a non-commercial, educational radio station as defined by the Federal Communications Commission.
