Matt has been working in the field of community media for more than 20 years. Most recently, Matt served as the Executive Director of TV Santa Barbara, a nonprofit media arts center serving the south coast of Santa Barbara County. Previously, Matt was the Multimedia Services Supervisor for Louisville Metro Government where he led MetroTV to repeated recognition for Overall Excellence in Government Programming. Matt has also worked as the Cable Television Coordinator for Lake County, Illinois, and Meridian Township, Michigan and was responsible for their government media operations and cable communications policy. Both operations were also recognized for Overall Excellence in Government Programming during his tenure.
Matt is a speaker at national and regional conferences on independent media. Matt served on the National Board of Directors of the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) for 6 years, and was the Board Chair for two of those years. Matt has served on various regional boards for the Alliance for Community Media and currently serves on the national Board of Directors of The Foundation of the Alliance for Community Media. The Alliance for Community Media recognized Matt with the National Buske Leadership Award in 2013. Matt has taught media production at Antioch University Santa Barbara and Bellarmine University in Louisville. Matt has a Master’s Degree in Media Arts from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.
Mark F. Monk
Mark began volunteering at the Public Media Network in 1984 and for the past 24 years has been an employee. He is currently the Operations Manager of PMN and Station Manager for WKDS 89.9FM, a hybrid educational and community radio station.
Mark has been a past member and board chair of the Michigan Chapter of the Alliance for Community Media (ACM), a past member of the National ACM board and currently the board chair for Central States – ACM.

As the Public Relations/Outreach Coordinator, Nick spends his days working with interns and staff to promote the services and activities that PMN has to offer the Kalamazoo community. When not working, his favorite activities are spending time outdoors with his family, visiting microbreweries around the Midwest, and enjoying films and music.

Matt Perigo, an instructor for EFE's digital video production and the PMN’s media production workshops. Matt got his start in the television media field when he worked for WWMT channel 3 in 1998 as a production assistant, master control operator, news cast editor, photojournalist and commercial production. He also served for 6 years in the Navy Reserve as a master at arms. He has an associate’s degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College degree in animation and video production. He has won multiple awards for his short films and animations.

Joe Starr is a Grand Ledge native, a proud comet and grew up rooting for the Michigan State University Spartans. Joe received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Film, Video and Media Studies from Western Michigan University in 2015. He moved back home after college and spent a semester as a Video Production Intern at HOMTV in Okemos and was a News Producer for WILX-TV 10 in Lansing for about a year and a half.
Joe returned to Kalamazoo to brush up on his shooting and editing skills and has been proudly working for PMN at the Government Production Services Unit in Portage since February 2017. He looks forward to meeting new people and producing a wide variety of stories about our community each day.

Laura has been involved in film and video for over 30 years. She began working at WTVX in West Palm Beach, Florida, and was a news photographer at WOOD tv8 for many years. She has also done commercial production for local and national clients. She currently shoots, edits, and produces content for the Government Production Services Unit located in Portage. GPSU creates two magazine style shows for Public Media Network, and produces special projects relating to educational and government news and events.

As Government Meeting Production Specialist, Al spends his days and evenings setting up for and covering the many public meetings in the area. Al is a lifetime Kalamazoo resident, interrupted by a few decades in Grand Rapids. Al has spent over 40 years in broadcast television, all in the West Michigan area. He recently retired but found the Public Media Network to be a wonderful opportunity to continue to be involved in the work he has done for a lifetime.
Al lives in Kalamazoo Township with his wife Ann and her cat Miles.
Karen Woodworth is the host of Connect and K-12 360, both produced through Public Media Network's Government Production Services Unit. She has a background in public and non-profit radio and is also a musicologist. When not at PMN, she directs musical ensembles and volunteers for various organizations. She's lived in Kalamazoo since 1990 and enjoys being a part of such a vibrant community.
